The Student Research Club (SRC) of Medical Biology and Biochemistry focuses its scientific activities on a broad range of topics in medical biology and biochemistry. Special emphasis is placed on research into central nervous system diseases, such as strokes and neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease. Additionally, members of the club explore issues related to oncology, concentrating on various aspects of tumors and their biomarkers. The SRC is also involved in studying the mechanisms of oxidative stress and the role of antioxidants. Another key area of research includes the endocrine function of adipose tissue and the influence of adipokines on homeostasis, as well as the role of melatonin and vitamin D in various physiological and pathological processes. Additionally, the research covers the analysis of inflammatory markers and the mechanisms of inflammatory processes.
Members of the SRC actively engage in research projects and present their findings at numerous scientific conferences both nationally and internationally. They participate in symposiums, workshops, and scientific meetings, gaining valuable experience in presenting their research. The achievements of the students are also published in peer-reviewed international journals.
The club’s research activities also include practical laboratory sessions, where students acquire essential skills in working with modern research methods. They perform biochemical assays using advanced techniques such as spectrophotometric and immunoenzymatic methods (ELISA).

In the academic year 2023/2024, the Student Research Club (SRC) of Medical Biology and Biochemistry achieved 2nd place in the category of Best Student Research Club at the Faculty of Medicine of CM UMK, and 4th place among all Student Research Clubs operating at CM UMK.
